I HAVE ACCEPTED THE CALL: to Our Savior Lutheran Church in Muscatine, IA. My last Sunday at St. Paul will be Sunday October 25th. Where does a call like this come from? They often come without warning. This call, too, came without warning and without my desire to serve anywhere but here. However, after two full weeks of prayer since receiving this call, I am convinced that God s people at St. Paul, Our Savior, and also my immediate and extended family will be best served by accepting this call to Our Savior Lutheran Church in Muscatine, Iowa. In Christ, Pastor Pautz

ANNOUNCEMENTS

HOLY COMMUNION: is celebrated at this congregation in the confession and glad confidence that, as He says, our Lord gives into our mouths not only bread and wine but His very body and blood to eat and drink for the forgiveness of sins and the strengthening of our union with Him and with one another. Our Lord invites to His table those who trust His words, repent of all sin, and put aside any refusal to forgive and love as He forgives and loves us, that they may show forth His death until He comes. Because those who eat and drink our Lord's body and blood unworthily do so to their great harm and because Holy Communion is a confession of the faith which is confessed at this altar, any who are not yet instructed, in doubt, or who hold a confession differing from that of this congregation and The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, and yet desire to receive this sacrament are asked first to speak with the pastor or an usher. For your self-examination this morning, review the Christian Questions with Their Answers found in the hymnal on page 329.

70 Days Before Easter (Septuagesima) Sunday

ANNUAL VALENTINES' DINNER: is next Sunday evening, February 15th. Please make your reservation with a Youth representative in the Fellowship Hall after the service this morning.

ORGANISTS & ALTAR GUILD NEEDED: Beginning March 1, two of three organists and one person from the altar guild are stepping down from their service to the congregation. Please go out of your way to say thank you to Jane Kleinsasser, Mindy Biernstiehl, and Kathleen Wipf for their years of dedicated service to the beauty of our Worship and this Sanctuary. If you or someone you know is willing to play the organ or piano during a Sunday or Mid-week Lenten Service or if you or someone you know is willing to help with paraments and altar care, please contact Pastor Pautz.

SUNDAY BIBLE STUDY: FIRE AND THE STAFF: Why do we sing all those same old hymns from the hymnal instead of the new songs they're singing in many other churches? Why does our church still insist on the practice of 'closed communion'? Why shouldn't we make a few changes so our worship service would be more 'dynamic' and 'exciting'? These are common questions that are asked today all across the country and even in our congregation. In his book, The Fire and the Staff: Lutheran Theology in Practice, Klemet Preus explores the impact of the American Evangelical and Church Growth Movements on the modern Lutheran Church. I invite everyone to attend the Sunday Morning Bible Study for the next few weeks as we read, study, and discuss parts of this important book. It deals with many challenges and controversies facing our synod and congregation today. Let's discover from Scripture and the Lutheran Confessions how we can best walk together as God's people gathered around His Word and Sacraments and sharing the Good News of salvation in Jesus Christ with our neighbors and around the world.

5TH 6TH GRADE CATECHESIS: Commandment 3 and meaning. Review Commandments 1-10.

7TH 8TH GRADE CATECHESIS: Prepare for the Quiz on the Lord's Prayer.

7TH & 8TH GRADE LEARN BY HEART FOR THIS WEDNESDAY: Scripture Verse: John 1:1-5 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. Catechism Verse: The end of the meaning of the Second Article: ...that I may be His own and live under Him in His kingdom and serve Him in everlasting righteousness, innocence, and blessedness. Just as He is risen from the dead, lives and reigns to all eternity. This is most certainly true.

    The Twenty-fifth Sunday after Trinity

    ANNOUNCEMENTS
  • Learn by Heart for Jr. Confirmation & Weekday School

  • Congregation at Prayer for This Week

  • HOLY COMMUNION: is celebrated at this congregation in the confession and glad confidence that, as He says, our Lord gives into our mouths not only bread and wine but His very body and blood to eat and drink for the forgiveness of sins and the strengthening of our union with Him and with one another.

Catechism Verse: ...that I may be His own and live under Him in His kingdom and serve Him in everlasting righteousness, innocence, and blessedness, ...

7TH & 8TH GRADE MEMORY WORK FOR THIS WEDNESDAY: Quiz #2 this Wednesday. Isaiah 7:14 - Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel. Catechism - I believe that Jesus Christ, true God, begotten of the Father from eternity, and also true man, born of the Virgin Mary, is my Lord, who has redeemed me, a lost and condemned person, purchased and won me from all sins, from death, and from the power of the devil; not with gold or silver, but with His holy, precious blood and with His innocent suffering and death, ...
